THE SCOOP

Thanks for visiting our web site! We hope you've seen our video, "Saved by the Bill." If you haven't, the rundown of the story is below. First, though, we'd like you to know that the video is based on a real bill that was sponsored in the 1997 session of the Idaho legislature. Our story, however, as well as most of the characters, is fictional.

Copies of "Saved By The Bill" are available for purchase from Idaho Public Television by calling 1-800-543-6868 or, in Boise, 373-7220. Well, here's the scoop!

Josh and Angie are watching television one day when they hear a report about an accident at the Retrolux nightclub. Too many kids were dancing in the "mosh pit" during a concert by "Rat Power." Several people were injured, one seriously. The concert was "general seating;" in other words, you could sit or stand wherever you wanted.

The reporter says that concerned parents will try to get a law passed by the legislature to require reserved seating at concerts.

Josh and Angie are upset. Angie in particular feels that reserved seating could make concerts less fun. They decide to contact their legislator,Miki Steadman.

Steadman introduces them to the other parties involved in drafting the legislation, including a paid lobbyist. The group works out a compromise, and the bill is presented to a House committee.

The bill passes the committee and goes to the House floor, where Josh and Angie wait to hear whether it will pass or fail. If it gets to the Senate, they have been promised the support of Senator Vaughn Vanderbee.
